National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) is a weeklong celebration from March 6–10 of the federal School Breakfast Program, which provides students with a nutritious meal to start their school day. We “fast” for seven or more hours a night when we sleep and breakfast literally means to “break the fast.” It is vital that when we awake that we fuel our bodies for the day with breakfast! Students across Mason County enjoyed Fruit Nachos comprised of yogurt, apples, strawberries, blueberries, granola and a caramel drizzle. Fun Food Fact: Ever wonder why apples float? It’s because 25% of their volume is made up by air.

Students celebrated Dr. Seuss this morning with Green Eggs and Ham. The incredible, edible egg contains 70 calories, 6 grams of protein, and 250 milligrams of choline. Choline is in the egg yolks, and it promotes normal cell activity, liver function and helps transport nutrients throughout the body! Fun Food Fact: An egg’s shell color doesn’t indicate the quality or nutritional value of an egg, but rather the breed of the hen that laid it. National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign created 50 years ago in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits. This year's theme is "Fuel for the Future." Eating with sustainability in mind is a tasty way to nourish ourselves during every phase of life and protect the environment. We are excited to add "Fuel for the Future" through local purchasing and education. Be on the lookout for colorful learning boards developed for our students across Mason County in all cafes.
